Why You Should Rent An Outer Banks, NC Vacation Home During Spring Break

The Outer Banks is a 200-mile stretch of barrier islands along the North Carolina and Virginia coasts. The majority of the coastline covers North Carolina, separating three different sounds from the Atlantic Ocean. Visiting the Outer Banks any time of year is a treat due to the abundance of year-round activities available. Perhaps one of the best times to rent Outer Banks vacation rentals is during Spring break. The weather is fabulous, with more mild temperatures than summer, and the crowds are not nearly as madding as they would be during peak summer months. Renting a house or condo in the Outer Banks in the “shoulder seasons” (times other than the peak June, July and August months) can also save you a substantial amount of money.

One of the better reasons to spend spring break in the Outer Banks is because not everyone has the exact same week devoted to that time. Spring break periods vary from school to school, and for working individuals, the actual rental week can be flexible. The availability of rentals can stretch further during spring break time, typically defined as anywhere from late March to mid-April. Summer rentals in the Outer Banks book very quickly and well in advance, whereas a number of rental choices will still available closer to the time of spring break.

March and April offer several activities that spring breakers may not necessarily be able to enjoy in the summer months. Spring is a great time for fishing in the Outer Banks, as red drum are typically migrating the waters of the ocean in the area. Winds in the spring pick up considerably, and visitors will find that kite flying is at its optimum in places like Kitty Hawk.

Kiteboarding is also at its peak, and open areas such as Kite Point near the Pamlico Sound offer premier kiteboarding locations. In addition, spring ocean swell makes for fantastic surfing from Corolla to Ocracoke.

Popular four-wheeling areas are also accessible to pedestrians and vehicles during this time of year. Cape Point, Oregon Inlet, and Hatteras Inlet are all open in the spring, but close down in the more heavily populated summer months in consideration of wildlife preservation.

Visitors looking for a place to rent can choose from hundreds of single family homes, condos, and large beach houses that are perfect for spring break family reunions. Most vacation rental companies offer deals and promotions to help visitors to the Outer Banks make the best of spring break.
